Decorative concrete has become a fashionable element in interior design. Here’s how to use decorative concrete to finish the walls. This is not a solution reserved only for the time of construction, nor do you need to buy heavy plates, the effect of concrete can be obtained in a homely way.
Decorative concrete is more and more often chosen
If the concrete is specially prepared and made, it is called decorative and architectural concrete. What distinguishes it from ordinary ready-mixed concrete? How can it be used to decorate walls in the interior? How to use decorative concrete to show its durability, and make an asset with a rough texture and a sad color?
If we want to decorate an interior in an industrial style, we can choose to finish the walls with original claddings of ready-made concrete slabs. But such discs are heavy and quite thick, so it will not always be the best and fastest solution. A similar effect of decorative concrete can be obtained by using various types of finishing coatings, for example, mineral decorative plasters, polymer modified plasters, structural paints simulating raw concrete. Elements that mimic the concrete can also be found in the collections of ceramic tiles, plastic cladding boards or wallpapers. Such solutions are applied on the prepared substrate, which is usually plaster or plasterboard.
Can acoustic concrete have a decorative function?
The cement-sand mass is used for the production of concrete slabs. In order to be able to shape thin plates from it, the mass is reinforced with glass fibers and pressed under pressure. Concrete slabs are heavy. Those with the size of an average ceramic tile weigh 15-20 kg, large about 50 kg, and the largest almost 100 kg. The most common concrete slabs on the market are quite thick, 2-3 cm thick, massive and heavy. These usually should be mounted on the walls mechanically with pins. They can also be laid on the grate from wooden or aluminum elements. Manufacturers are constantly improving the technology to reduce the thickness of the boards, because they are easier to mount, they can be glued on the walls like ceramic tiles. An excellent choice is also GRC concrete slabs, which is lighter than traditional material. It is a very good acoustic isolator and looks good at the same time.
